Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find my correct ring size?
I suggest you go to any local jewelry store (it is complimentary) and have them size your finger properly- rather than using an at-home or plastic ring sizer. With the width of your band that you love. We do not recommend using the online ring sizer, string, paper or a ruler. These will not give you an accurate ring size. Although we size your ring at any point, it's much easier to get it right from the beginning.
Â
What if I get my ring size wrong?
If you order the wrong size by accident, most times I can adjust the ring accordingly for just a small fee plus shipping. If it's a special occasion, or surprise, accommodations will definitely be made!
Â
Can I return an item if it isn’t what I expected or is too different from the image I saw online?
Because each piece is custom and handmade, I do my best to showcase each ring as requested as possible. With an extensive design process, these errors are hopefully prevented. With sourcing conflict-free and unique stones, I cannot always guarantee a perfect match as pictured, but I will do everything I can to source the perfect stones. You will be included in the stone selection process via photos and videos or a live FaceTime Design consultation. There are, therefore, no returns on customized orders.
Â
Are repairs available?
I would love to be your repairer of choice should something happen; however, it is rare that repairs need to be made.
Â
How long will my order take to arrive? Â
Ready to ship styles only require a small amount of work to prepare for shipping, such as final sizing, polishing and packaging. This process will take 5-7 days max.Â
Custom designs typically have turnaround of 7-9 weeks for completion from beginning to end. I try to stay as true to your design and desires as possible, so through sourcing the perfect stones, possibly mining from your current or heirloom pieces, or repurposing gold, I want to make sure that your design has the time and attention it deserves.
Rushing an order is an option and pricing can be discussed as needed.
Â
What types of metals do you work in? Â
I am a goldsmith, so all variations of precious metals, all colors of gold are available, as well as platinum and a variety of more unique precious metal alloys.
Â
What types of stones do you work with?
The opportunities are limitless. If you can dream it, and I can source it, there is nothing we can't design together! This includes conflict free diamonds, colored and rose cut diamonds, sapphires, rubies, emeralds and every precious and semi precious gemstone.
Â
What if I have my own stones and gold I'd like to use?Â
I can absolutely use your heirloom pieces in our designs. From melting the gold to mining the stones, repurposing your jewelry is one of my favorite design options! Please contact us first at info@melissatysondesigns.com to get proper shipping and insurance instructions before shipping us your heirlooms.
Â
If I purchase a stone, can it be used?
Yes, sourced or provided stones can be used, if you'd like. Certification and paperwork will be needed and could require more work in the design process; however, with proper documentation of high quality stones, equal to the quality I would source or use, this should not be a problem! Â
Â
Do you charge sales tax?
Sales tax is charged on purchases of rings purchased and shipped to North Carolina customers only.
Â
How will my package be shipped?
All of my designs come in a Melissa Tyson Designs jewelry box. Items are shipped, after carefully being packaged, with insurance in nondescript boxes to insure your privacy. Should you need your package shipped elsewhere than your billing address, or need special instructions, please communicate that with me in the design process.
Â
What are your care techniques?
We suggest cleaning your rings by using mild dish soap, warm water, and a soft toothbrush. It's also a good idea to have a local jeweler check your prongs or bezel setting once a year. When they are checking to make sure the stone is secure and the setting is in great shape, they usually will do a complimentary steam cleaning. This is like doing a routine oil change on your car; it's a diamond checkup to help maintain your fine jewelry.Â
